Privacy Policy

Last updated October 3, 2026

Page Pulse helps people find books and share what they think of them. This page explains, in plain language, what information we handle and why.

What we collect

  • Account details. Your username and email address, and your password stored only as a one-way hash. We can’t read your password.
  • What you add. An optional profile picture (cropped to a small square in your browser, with camera and location data removed), ratings and reviews, shelves (want to read, reading, finished), lists, reading goals, mood votes and flags, and review reports, and the readers you follow.
  • Network address. Your IP address is used briefly to limit sign-ups, log-in attempts and searches so the site can’t be abused. Those counters are deleted automatically within a few hours.
  • Browsing without an account. You can browse, filter and search without signing up. We don’t track which books you look at.

Cookies

We set one cookie, a session cookie that keeps you logged in for up to 30 days. It’s essential for the site to work when you’re signed in. We don’t use advertising or analytics cookies.

What other people can see

  • Public: your username, your profile picture if you set one, when you joined, who you follow and who follows you, your reviews and ratings, and any list you set to Public. These appear on your profile at /u/your-username.
  • Private: your email address, your shelves, your reading goal and stats, and every list you leave Private. Lists are private until you choose otherwise.

Services we rely on

  • Vercel hosts the site and may keep ordinary server logs (such as IP addresses and requests).
  • Neon hosts our database, where your account and content are stored.
  • Open Library (openlibrary.org) is the source of book information and cover images. Covers are fetched and served through our own servers, so your browser doesn’t contact Open Library to display them. When you search Open Library for a book that isn’t in our catalog, your search words are sent to Open Library.

We don’t sell your information and we don’t share it for advertising.

Deleting your information

You can delete your account at any time from your profile → Your account → Delete my account (click your picture in the top right to get there). This permanently removes your profile, reviews, shelves, lists, votes and goals from our database. Copies in routine database backups can persist for a short time before they expire. You can also delete individual reviews and lists whenever you like.

Security

Passwords are hashed, connections use HTTPS, and sessions use secure, HTTP-only cookies. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a password you don’t use anywhere else.

Children

Page Pulse isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has created an account, tell us and we’ll remove it.

Changes and contact

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date above. Questions or requests can be sent by opening an issue at github.com/rkhushraj/pagepulse/issues.
